Day 42 – Brave People Need People

Downs believes that in order to be brave and make brave choices we need the support of people we love and who love us. Do you agree? If you have ever been without a “friendship amoeba” (as Downs describes), would you say you felt you we’re missing out?

Today’s starting scripture reads, “You are better off to have a friend than to be all alone, because then you will get more enjoyment out of what you earn. If you fall, your friend can help you up. But if you fall without having a friend nearby, you are really in trouble.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10, CEV)

If having a friend is so important and life-giving, then why do you think Downs tells us, “You’ve got to be brave and let yourself love people”?

Why would God write in his Word that we are better off with friends around? Do you think there is a cost involved in friendship?

Are you able to reach out to a friend today to thank him or her? Are there friends you feel you should to draw closer to?

  1. I thought that was a very interesting statement about it being easier to have a relationship with your Netflix que. I can somewhat agree with that at least in my case because of availability of your friends (everyone’s busy schedules) and also a “shortage” of people to be in a community with. It can be easier to just stay in and watch something than to put forth an effort. Friendship is definitely rewarding though so I wonder why we sometimes drop the ball?
