Today’s scripture (Proverbs 16:24) in The Passion Translation reads “Nothing is more appealing than speaking beautiful, life-giving words. For they release sweetness to our souls and inner healing to our spirits.” Can you imagine? Don’t we all need inner healing? Do you agree words can give life?
Downs writes today, “Be different in a world that uses words to hurt. Use your words to heal, and use them often. Give those words of life, the words found in Scripture, to as many people as you can.” It takes courage to go against what the mainstream is doing in any regard. Being the single person in the room who chooses to build people up with her words, rather than gossip or judge, is brave. Being observant so that we can thank and encourage and affirm takes energy. We make a choice: to speak and to speak lovingly. I don’t think we need to always quote Scripture to build up—if we are reading it ourselves we can’t help but have our words influenced by it.
How do you feel about writing a note or someone today? Have you ever received such a note?
This topic reminded me of Colossians 4:6
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
I gave a card to a friend tonight with a restaurant gift card as a thank you for doing our youth group this summer. This happens so often-I’ll come to read the devotional before the day ends and I’ll have an example!
Yeah…I think you were made to do this study this season, everything that’s happening to you fits in perfectly!!
