Not every one of us has a paid job; of course some of us work full-time or part-time, but perhaps you work all day in the home for your families, perhaps you are studying full-time, or perhaps you spend most of your time working in some other capacity. When Downs talks about pay-checks today, let’s widen the scope to consider what we spend most of our time doing.
I spend most of my time with my children, my close family and friends. And, when I think about what I do most of (apart from laundry and meal making, obviously) it’s actually encouraging and equipping those people to be the best versions of themselves. I’m not interested in making them mini versions of me, or controlling what they choose to do, rather I want them to be themselves. I do that for my children, my husband, my friends, and anyone else who pops into my life. I also write (most of which is only read by me).
Thinking back on the other day when we talked about what our friends say we are good at, how much do you get to practise doing that thing? When you’re brave enough to own it, how can you see those golden threads running through your day to day, week to week life?
Downs asks us to consider in what way our current job is the right one for this season. In some seasons that is harder to see than others. If it’s difficult to see what purpose your job (or where you spend most time) provides in your current season, consider asking God to show you. God wastes nothing, but we can be sure “every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.” Romans 8:28 TPT
I’m still reading along! This section on dreams/callings is hard for me so I haven’t had much to write.
I’m so pleased you’re still with us. I’ve been praying for you! I’m finding it harder than I expected to. I’ve been away visiting my family and busy every day so don’t feel I have had time to actually journal and process my own thoughts for my own self! I’m hoping to have some real journaling later this week
